Meat Is for Pussies Tries to Sell Meatheads on Meatlessness

Via PETA’s blog (“It’s summertime, and the living is easy — unless you’re an animal who’s killed for the grill”), here’s news of a new book, Meat Is for Pussies, which publisher Crush Books is pitching as “a how-to guide for dudes who want to get fit, kick ass and take names.” That’s right, the “dude food” trend has finally intersected with the “less meat” trend! Like Moby, the author is a vegan musician, though Cro-Mags front man John “Bloodclot” Joseph is way more ripped. Dude was “raised by the mean streets of NYC in the mid-70s” and according to his bio, “changing how he thought about food saved him from the same early death many of his peers faced.” Because enjoying the occasional carnitas cemita is the same thing as shooting heroin.

Sadly, carnivorism has made us too lethargic to read this thoughtful tome, but the introduction featured on its Facebook page should give you an idea: “The kick-ass, easy-to-make, nutrient-rich meals and super-food recommendations in the back of this book will jump-start your metabolism and kick your libido into overdrive.”

This book title is demeaning to women and should never have been published! What a disgrace!

If anything, this book will demean every self help section it is placed in. We also think that you let the 'author' off a bit too easy.

Reaching to the choir. Lots of sanctimonious vegans will buy this book.

Equestrian21,

"Pussies" is short for pusillanimous.

What were you thinking?

They were thinking that using the word "pussies" says to their target audience "see? we're just like you. trust us."

Oh look, the P.C. mafia showed up. All you people need to relax. Talk all of your sh*t AFTER you read the book. You people take yourselves so damn seriously all the time, rushing to judgement. You've all obviously missed the humor in the title of the book. What's the one thing that "meat-eating muscleheads" fear the most? Being a "p***y". Take your politically-correct, elitist, close-minded personalities and shove 'em up your a**...or up your p***y! Also, all you bleeding-heart, more concerned with what everyone else is doing, left-wingers: remember the 1st Amendment that many of you hide behind when it comes to your "unpopular" agendas. Vegetarian food for thought...

Why on earth would you publish a review of a book you were "too lethargic to read"???

Maybe you should rename Grub Street "Meat Street". It seems as if compassion for animals is a crime to you and most of your readers.

VegAm's can of artificial whoopass just reaffirms the point I made about how this book is merely a vehicle for milking a target audience. It's just too bad they can't reach out to meat eaters instead of trying to whip them with a limp, wet noodle. They have strong arguments but almost zero social skills, and that's a shame.

That title is disturbing...

I'm sure that the author is taking a swipe at the 'steak eating manly man' stereotype. Whether or not the author chose that title for the sexual reference, it exists. Some people will see the title and think of sex.

How does one put this delicately? For some female vegetarians, the comparison of male body parts to meat is somewhat off-putting.

The book is a good idea but that title probably should be reworked.
