Former Miss Kenya Admits to Polygamous Marriage

Former Miss Kenya,Cecilia Mwangi, has got the media buzzing after she revealed to Drum Magazine that she is in a polygamous marriage. Mwangi said that she is married to a youthful member of Parliament from the Coast in Kenya who has another wife with whom he even has children.

Mwangi shared with the magazine that she has been married to the government official for five years and said that she has been keeping her marriage quiet. She said that she decided to speak openly abut her polygamous marriage when another local celebrity, in Kenya, spoke about her own polygamous marriage.

The former beauty queen spoke openly about her marriage but was mindful not to mention her husband’s name because she said that he is in the middle of a political campaign that she did not want to be disrupted. Speaking to Lifestyle magazine, last week, she said,

“We are now in the campaign period and I want my husband to be at peace.”

Mwangi is among many young and educated Kenyans who are now openly talking about their polygamous marriages. Their marriages prove that those who have ruled out polygamy as an outdated practice in their culture may have spoken too soon.

While the Multi-nationals are trying to stamp out polygamy and their global media monopoly is persisting about polygamy being an old and outdated practice that's no longer common, it's now seeing a resurgence. Official statistics show that 13 of every 100 married Kenyan women are in polygamous marriages and growing.

Although it's claimed that the official Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS), 2008/2009 statistics are very unreliable. Western pressure and "loan requirements" placed on foreign aid has set up conditions that forced most polygamous marriages to go "underground", many Kenyans say the figure is much higher than 13%.

While polygamy is certainly still being practiced, western funded surveys have tried to show that educated Kenyan women are much less likely to enter polygamous marriages, when in fact educated women are encouraged to take the Birth Control Pill and because of the hormone imbalance, are far less likely to marry at all, full stop. No different to the women of the west, a rising number of Kenyan women are becoming life long single mothers with one child only.

Some have suggested that polygamy may be the answer to the complaint by women that there are not enough men who are marriage material. The topic of polygamy causes division in the Kenyan community because many have adopted modern western religious beliefs that reject polygamy.

Ok, here's the thing, can a woman be married to two men at the same time and society accepts this? Personally I don't care what other women wants to accept...but I will not stay or married to a man who is already married. And if I was the first wife and he expresses his wish to marry a second, I would quite frankly kick him to the curb.

It is all about educating yourself, if you are a Christian and you say it is immoral let it be very clear that you are not following the Bible because the early Christians practiced polygamy until the Roman Empire decided to curtail that aspect of Christinaity.

Further most of the prophets of GOD practiced polygamy, the nation of Isreal came into existence because of polygamy as Abraham practiced polygamy so to say it is immoral is a lapse if judgment if you consider the facts! Please read the link below if you want scriptual evidence that Christians did in fact practice polygamy!

Respectfully, Peace :)

It may be done in America, but there are legalities behind it. It is illegal to have multiple marriage partners at one time in America without being legally divorce in perspective after sepration of each marriage. If one partner cannot satisfy your physical needs legally, maybe there's finaicial issues attached to being married to more than one partner. Most modern Christians say it's immoral.

then you are misinformed and delusional. I saw a black man with two black wives on 60 minutes and I am certain there are many more Westerners who would engage if the black male was not a constant target and could afford it. What is the difference when a black man or woman has side sugars and the spouse is aware, but says nothing to keep her home in tact if nothing else but from a economic position. I've heard women say, I don't care what he does, as long as he doesn't bring home diseases or babies, so yes there may not be one, because there are many that would accept it, right here in America. I was at a wedding recently, it was 4 single black lonely hearted women trying to get to my husband before I got to the table. He said, you better be glad you came, they were like vulchers. Then one had the nerve to ask me if me and my husband were going to dance, ugh yes, I love to dance. Anyone of them would have passed their number and had my husband in their bed, so don't tell me black women will not openly share.

My observation/experience is that they'reee more intent (in America) on replacing the existing wife, then on joining the family as an additional member, even when the existing wife is accepting of Polygamy.

This is a practice that's been either taught or practice for centuries, here and overseas. It's a way of life that either the country or continant allows it or don't allow it. If one's is raised it in or not in it is how one going to deal it. Theirs no right or wrong as long as their no brainwashing involved. In Africa it was common. In America it was not, except some areas, but remember prositution was at one point legal in most states. Now more and more people are considering "open marriages" which is basiclly the same thing.

OK Blue Dogs, this article brings to the front of my mind just how hypocritical Republicans and Conservative Christians were in supporting Mitt Romney. To win an election, you were willing to turn a blind eye to this! You selected as your candidate, as your representative running against a REAL CHRISTIAN MAN, the President, a man (Mitt) who actively practices a faith that still, despite clever gimmicks to cover and conceal the practice, supports a man having more than one wife. Mitt's grand daddy had FIVE (which is why he was kicked out of the US and thus, Mitt's Mexican roots story...LOL). At least two of the present-day apostles of Mormonism are sealed to more than one wife, and have publicly acknowledged that they are looking forward to being with both of them in heaven. And polygamy is still commanded in their scriptures, Doctrine & Covenants section 132.

You are so right Arnold....In fact the only TRUE Mormons are the ones who DO practice polygamy because the false prophet Joseph Smith required it for the man to become "a god" in the afterlife & he also stated that if the women refused to be in a polygamist marriage .....they would burn in hell. Most all who practice polygamy are in cults & the women do not have a choice or they are told that it is "god's will"which is a lie from hell.

Yes, if might be done in American and no one talks about it. We talk when the man dies and only one woman can get the Social Security, Pension, Flag, house, car and Insurance money. Then we all wake up out of our dream. A man can not support two families. I have to make sure I am well taken care of if I put my time in with a man. If you do not care how you live. Then my suggestion is to be in that type of marriage.

Analysis of the federal budget from a little more than a decade ago reveals that the Bush Tax Cuts of 2001 are the reason for the deficit we are dealing with today. The decline in government revenues was felt to be sustainable with economists predicting sunny economic skies over the next 10 years. What they didn’t expect was the republican party would create a severe financial crisis and two expensive wars. That has made all the difference in the world for president Obama and this generation.
Racist caucasians have created a stock pile of dangerous weapons with the intent of killing you know who! The only response from AA’s to this serious threat is buying more gold teeth, tattoos, hair extensions, expensive tennis shoes and handbags, alcohol, tobacco products, crack, popping bottles-making it rain and other insignificant BS. Caucasians created a fake god- a white man with long hair to whom Black ppl pray to each day and night. The book associated with this fake god- the Bible instructs Black ppl to “Love thy Enemy” and “Slaves obey your Masters”. Black people, your enemy is planning to wage an all-out war against you and your only response is to- Love and Pray for Them. Black ppl, please realize you must overcome your fear of caucasians which is responsible for your paralysis to this eminent violence. The time has come for black ppl to stop being slave minded drones to this wicked nation and it’s fake religion.

It’s obviously a cultural matter. She is not American and therefore her views are quite different from what mine would be on the subject. If African Americans are doing this, it is illegal. At any rate, if she is concerned about her husband’s political welfare, why say anything? She let the cat out of the bag by obviously seeking publicity. People who know her, know who she’s married to. Anyway, who really cares? Today is election day in America, we have bigger concerns.

Polygamy may not be legal in the US but it is practiced. There are not enough single men for every woman to have a man, that’s a fact except in places like China or India where they kill the female fetus. There is a surplus of men in those countries because of infanticide, so you women out there who want a man and haven’t been able to find one try India or China. Why should a woman go without the benefit of a husband and children who have a recognized birth right, meaning not illegitimate?
Get smart ladies, there is nothing wrong with polygamy if it is practiced correctly. So you women who are waiting around for the Mr Right One, guess what, you may either have to share a man or not have one at all. Contrary to what you may think, there are very educated women in African and Asian countries that are in polygamous marriages. Why, because they wanted a husband and children and some free time too. This monogamy is a made up Western ideology that doesn’t meet the needs of the people. Read your history…

Clearly we have different views on the matter. I am well aware of my history as well as my personal choices. As the bible says: “Every man does right in his own eyes”. We have freedom of choice and I choose not to enter into a union where I am so desparate to have a man that I would be willing to do so under any circumstances. I currently am alone, but not lonely.

If you are alone, then you are lonely! Quit playin’, you know you want a man, but you are choicey, and that’s a plus.
In polygmous relationships, it is not always about s*x! A man needs a woman, who can cook, a woman to keep the house clean, a woman, who washes the clothes, and a woman for mental stimulation…it is not always about s*x!!! s*x comes natural in any relationship; there has to be a cosmic connection. Some men like to be seen with a well dressed woman; and vice versa…the name of the game is CHOICES!!! IT’S ALL MENTAL. Therefore, before I make love to the body; I must make love to the mind!!! No s-exual penetration without mental stimulation!!! TOO MUCH SHYT OUT HERE!!!
Some women can do chores around the house, that other women may lack; therefore, there is nothing wrong with having multiple wives. What’s the difference when a woman goes out with multiple males, and she is married? She’s classified, as a ‘ho, but the woman, who is MARRIED, and AGREES to share her mate, then that is not being a ‘ho! That’s what you call family.
I see nothing wrong with this type of relationship. To me that proves that a woman knows where she stands in a relationship. Every woman is not out to have s*x with a man, she sometimes just wants a decent conversation, and a man, who is equal to her standards. No difference in a polygamous marriage, these women are doing what PLEASES them.
THE caucasoid MALE IS THE BIGGEST ‘HO ON THE PLANET. HE STROKES MORE HO’s THAN A CANOE RACE!!!

Years ago when I first moved to the DC area, I was dining at Red Lobster – alone, but I had a boyfriend at the time. These two ladies dining together asked me if I had a man, I answered yes. Somewhere in between their probing conversations, they said, living here you will share him. In my naivete I said, I am not sharing anyone. At the end of the conversation, they just laughed and said ok. Well, they knew exactly what they were speaking about, I was truly the silly woman, not believing that. Oh how life teaches us what we think we know, but really don’t. Needless to say, fast forward and 25 years later, that has been worked out when two people decide to do it God’s way, the western Culture God’s way to be specific, but there were a lot of bumps, U-turns along the way. Thank God for second, third…. chances to get it right, not everyone does or can.

Women who are truly educated will eventually come to terms with polygamy as opposed to more risky or sinful lifestyles. Doing quickies with strangers, prostitutions, trans-cultural-racial date rapes and gay unions will never meet the needs of third world women. It is devastating to mother and child to be subjected to these failed experimental lifestyles, where the family implodes instead of expands into and extended systems to support and nurture. All aboriginal people figured that out. They had much lower incidences of STDs than Europeans who spread death to native folk whereever they went until they could be often cured by the folk/traditional medicines. Stay out there datin if you dare…

Even the Mormons have more sense and practice the elite family values of polygamy for the sake of the entire family instead of alienation of a hedonistic fool mom and dad. There…if you need a white role model, a purely American one, not to mention native Americans. So, come off that ” polygamy ain’t American ruse…to WHO?

Black Americans have been in polygamous relationships from day one. Slave masters used big buck strong Negroes to impregnate the younger child bearing Black slave women to breed healthier Black slave children, etc,. And Black American men today, have several children by several different women…….Though they maynot have the benefit of legal marriage to any of their baby mommas, this has always been a common practice within the Black Community for years.

A truism from ancient practice in our African Ancestry, before foreigner came to Africa to trade etc. A religious practice to this day in many ancient cultures. A historical reading, tells the story about the sharing of the wife between brothers in families in old China. Some Philosophies speak to the possible, unrealistic practice of the one man one women system…is it really working in the modern world? All parties involved made the decision to share. Polygamy may be another serious issue in this country. Women of this country should thank God President Obama was re-elected. We are told if Mitt Romney, as Mormon Pope, was elected was going to intrude a legislation to allow polygamy in this country. In fact when he announced he was going to run, Romney went to Utah Mormon Temple where he had intense discussions with Mormon leaders about the issue. Mormon allowed polygamy marriages in the past. Polygamy, I am told was banned in this country by Christian law makers. Now that gay and lesbian marriages are common in some states, Mormon men, want to have same right – have as many wives as their money allow. Of course women will have the same right. We should ask ourselves – why rich people and politicians are caught having affairs. Could polygamy solve their problem? I also heard some black women complain they can’t find men. Could polygamy be their solution? I want to ask single men – How many girl friends do you have now? How do you feel having several girl friends? Give us your experience how you can love all girl friends at the same time. This a serious issue for women as quite a few black men are prisons.

This topic has always been intriguing.. I would say that most Americans practice poligamy without calling it that.. and with little to no responsiblity… Any time a man enters a womens body he should show some responsiblity for her and her children. .. this is half the problem. .. if men had to work n provide for the women he sleeps with I’m sure a lot of men would think differently and prehaps if a women knew she could count on him as a provider n protector n not just a s*x object. . I believe more women would b open to pilagamy.

I believe most outside Africa who hear the term Polygamy truly do not understand what it is or why? Many believe a man with more than one wife is just laying up. Not true. Polygamy was explained to me many years ago by a brother from Cameroon who had two wives himself. It made perfect sense.
People these African nations have been around eons before there was a USA under England/European standards or even prior to Jesus Christ walking the earth. The USA does not hold the standard for everyone in the world. If Polygamy was truly understood by the masses we just may have less problems as a people.

This woman should be ashamed of herself as she is supposed to be a role model for young women, given that polygamous marriages in most African countries involved coercion. some women in Africa allows it because of the financial benefits others are forced into this situation by family. I am an African and i can tell you that some of these polygamous marriage are just traditional. What I have come to observe is that some of these men indulge in these because his father-father or some respected person did that. They forget that the original intent of the fore fathers were noble and based on the realities of the time, and not the raging hormones. At the olden times, the population was less dense and there were large acres of land to farm and limited farm hands, so some of our fore fathers married, three, 4 wives with intent managing the fast lands at the disposal. Time have change and the economic reality makes the practice stupid. Women allow it sometime out of financial hardship and some the traditional practice bind them to loveless marriage. So an African woman with a platform to effect change, I am ashamed of her.

The children in America might see their Fathers more. The women are sharing men all over America. Black American women are taugth to be Princess and they have children without the first marriage. Maybe the beauty queen can teach a few things about loving a man that has more than 1 woman. It’s happening without marriage anyway. This may make men more responsible and cause the tax payers less money. I’m just saying….

A beauty pageant or beauty contest, is a competition that mainly focuses on the physical beauty of its contestants, although such contests often incorporate personality, talent, and answers to judges’ questions as judged criteria. The phrase almost invariably refers only to contests women and girls; similar events for men or boys are called by other names and are more likely to be bodybuilding contests. Winners of beauty contests are often called beauty queens. Children’s beauty pageants mainly focus on beauty, gowns, sportswear modelling, talent, and personal interviews. Adult and teen pageants focus on makeup, hair and gowns, swimsuit modelling, and personal interviews. ^
