Gareth Clayton is absolutely right that there are better sources for calcium than dairy milk. Quoting from my friend Bill Harris, a retired medical doctor in Hawaii: "If you look at the calcium-per calorie ratio, two dozen leafy greens come in ahead of the first dairy product. Examples of these are watercress, Chinese cabbage and collard greens. Whey, the first dairy product, is number 45 on the list." (Honolulu Advertiser, July 26, 2005.)

Other good sources of calcium are tofu, soy beans, almonds, broccoli, figs, fortified orange juice and sea vegetables.

The ultimate irony is that drinking dairy milk actually causes osteoporosis because animal protein depletes the body of its calcium. Nutritionally speaking, we are living in the dark ages, and it simply defies human comprehension that the public still believes drinking dairy milk is good for our bones.
