How to Stop the Mind Chatter! Sent Friday, February 8, 2013

FROM: http://archive.aweber.com/soulwoman/PH4 ... atter_.htm

Dear Soul Sister
As a psychologist, I have used the word 'meditation' thousands of times in my life. I have spent a good chunk of my professional life researching the benefits and recommended it to my anxious and depressed clients. I knew what it was. I just never imagined the impact once I became serious about doing it consistently in my own life. I thought it was just another practice. I was wrong. It's much more than a practice. It's a force.

Perhaps you've tried meditation and given up when life became too busy... and perhaps you still think you're too busy to fit it in. Or maybe you find it just too frustrating to try and enter that space of stillness in the midst of your busy life. I'm well aware of how challenging it can be to stop the mind chatter. The bad news is that our minds do what they do - they LOVE to chatter. And the antidote? Well, even a simple meditation practice can help you to drop into wordlessness, develop inner peace and thereby achieve more joy than you could ever imagine!

Meditation works best when you keep it simple. You don't need special meditation cushions, guided visualization CDs or music. All you need, is the intention to take a few minutes to quiet your mind.

Here's a super simple meditation practice to get you started:

• Select a quiet space where you won't be interrupted for a few minutes.
• Arrange something you can sit on comfortably; a chair will do fine.
• Close your eyes... and drop into a state of wordlessness.
• Draw your awareness to your breath. Focus on the in-flow and out-flow of your breath for a few seconds.
• Take a deep breath in and, as you exhale, experience the weight of your body sinking into relaxation.
• After a few moments of breath awareness, draw your awareness inwards, into yourself. Become aware of a growing peaceful feeling inside.
• Maintain brief periods of stillness in your mind as you focus on your breathing.
• If your mind wanders, acknowledge it and gently bring your attention back to your breath.
• Notice how easy it is to be in your body, in this moment.
• After a few minutes, gently open your eyes and re-enter your day.

This month our challenge in the Soul Sanctuary is to establish and maintain a meditation practice. If you want to learn about different meditation styles in a supportive environment, we would love for you to join our Inner Circle. We are a loving group of Soul Sisters who help each other to stay connected to our truest self, whilst living in harmony with our family, friends, colleagues and the world! You are so welcome in our midst.

Let's create miracles together!
